Glass Heart

Hunted by men, the mermaid said:

My heart is a glass,

Shattered and shattering into shards.

As I bury them in bloodied hands,

Never rekindled into a whole.

Remaining fragile and divided,

Into shapeless isolated parts.

The glint of its surface is still pretty,

Shimmery and sharp,

Cut and broken from afar.
